The assessment involves matching what the individual already knows and can do with the performance indicators described in the national or regional occupational standards. Achievements are recognized by the award of the National/Caribbean Vocational Qualification (N/CVQ) or in some instances, statements of unit achievement.
Awards cannot be made based on years of work experience only. Evidence of quality of performance and range of experience must be submitted for assessment.
The Individual must provide the evidence of competence for prior learning assessment. Each item of evidence must adequately support or add to the support of the claim for competence in specific areas and the individual must ensure that the evidence provided meets the criteria stated.
