Overview

The TVET Council (TVETC) is a statutory organisation set up to make Barbados more competitive through the development of its workforce. It is mandated to plan, coordinate and establish standards and qualifications for the discipline of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is, simply put, education that prepares students, job seekers, the employed and the self-employed for the world of work and business. Also known as workforce training, it is the integration of academic and practical learning and includes all programmes and courses that contribute towards the development of the knowledge, technical skills, attitudes, and core skills essential to being competitive in the world of work.

The Council’s mission to develop a competent, certified and competitive workforce in Barbados and the region, could not be accomplished without the assistance of our numerous supporters and contributors. As a result, we once again want to take this opportunity, during the period when Barbados pauses to reflect and give thanks, to say a heartfelt thank you to all of our technical and occupational experts.

During the past year, despite the continuing challenges posed by the COVID- 19 pandemic and its impact, 116 persons volunteered their time and expertise to assist the TVET Council in carrying out its programme of work, in the following ways: validation of regional occupational standards, development of national occupational standards, development of curricula and provision of oversight for the occupational standards and quality assurance processes. While we have highlighted four of our valued contributors at this time, to give insight into the work involved, appreciation is extended to our full list of contributors and supporters.
