Property And Facilities Maintenance (Building Maintenance) Level 1 (CVQ)

Who is this qualification for?

This qualification is for individuals who wish to acquire basic training in the routine maintenance of properties. Candidates will undertake training in areas such as plumbing, tiling, carpentry and equipment maintenance.

Individuals who would benefit from this qualification include:

  • Building Maintenance Staff

This list is not exhaustive and only serves to illustrate the breadth of the qualification.

How it is structured?

To be awarded this Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ), candidates must successfully complete all mandatory units Elective units achieved will be awarded unit  Statements of Competence.

What does it covers?

The mandatory units include:

  • Assemble pipes and fittings for clients
  • Prepare surfaces for painting and decorating
  • Rough cast and render flat surfaces
  • Hand make timber joints
  • Install, terminate and connect electrical wiring

The optional units cover:

  • Carry out routine servicing of coils, filters and room air conditioners
  • Carry out routine pool and fountain maintenance
  • Carry out routine maintenance of solar water systems Prepare for construction process (brick/block laying/carpentry)
  • Perform daily operational maintenance of machines/equipment
  • Perform basic repair to electrical/electronic apparatus
  • Evacuate and dehydrate refrigeration systems
  • Lay and repair wall and floor tiles
  • Perform daily operational maintenance of machines/equipment
  • Test, evacuate and charge refrigeration systems
