Motor Vehicle Repairs (Cars And Light Trucks) Level 1 (CVQ)

Who is this qualification for?

This qualification is for individuals who wish to acquire knowledge about the general service and repair of vehicular components, such as:

  • Engines
  • Brakes
  • Fuel, Cooling and Electrical Systems
  • Steering and Suspension Systems
  • Manual and Automatic Transmissions

Individuals who would benefit from this qualification include:

  • Auto Mechanics
  • Automotive Service Technicians

This list is not exhaustive and only serves to illustrate the breadth of the qualification.

How it is structured?

To  be awarded this Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ), candidates must successfully complete all mandatory units plus a minimum of four (4) Level One elective units and one (1) Level Two elective unit.

What does it covers?

The mandatory units include:

  • Service engines and associated engine components
  • Disassemble/assemble cylinder head and checking tolerances
  • Disassemble/assemble engine block and sub-assemblies and evaluate components/checking tolerances
  • Perform routine servicing of petrol fuel systems
  • Remove, service and replace steering and suspension system components
  • Service disc/hydraulic braking systems
  • Prepare for manual/automatic transmission service/repair

The optional units include:

  • Carry out minor repairs to electrical wiring/lighting/warning systems
  • Service clutch, CV joints and final drive assemblies and or associated components
  • Machine brake drums and brake disc rotors
  • Repair cooling systems and associated components
  • Repair and tuning petrol fuel systems
  • Service manual transmission assemblies
  • Remove/refit/replace automatic transmission and drive train system components/unit from vehicle
