Metal Work Engineering Level 2 (CVQ)

Who is this qualification for?

This qualification is for individuals who wish to enhance their effectiveness in the metal, engineering and maintenance industry. Individuals who would benefit from this qualification include:

  • Maintenance staff
  • Mechanics
  • Machine Operators

This list is not exhaustive and only serves to illustrate the breadth of the qualification.

How it is structured?

To be awarded this Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ), candidates must successfully complete all mandatory units. Elective units achieved will be awarded unit Statements of Competence.

What does it covers?

The mandatory units include:

  • Prepare for oxyacetylene/metal arc welding processes
  • Perform basic and advance lathe operations
  • Perform basic and advance milling operations
  • Perform machining operations using horizontal and/or vertical boring machine

The optional units include:

  • Perform basic welding using manual metal arc welding process (MMAW)
  • Perform basic welding using oxyacetylene welding process (OAW) - fuel gas welding
  • Undertake fabrication, forming, bending and shaping
  • Weld using gas metal arc welding process GMAW - (Metal inert gas- MIG)
  • Perform precision shaping/planning/slotting operations
  • Perform tool and cutter grinding operations
  • Perform complex lathe operation
