Garment Production Level 1 (CVQ)

Who is this qualification for?

This qualification is for individuals working in the garment manufacturing industry interested in producing custom-made garments and embroidered and printed products: for example: 

  • Seamstresses
  • Tailors
  • Fashion Designers

This list is not exhaustive and only serves to illustrate the breadth of the qualification.

How it is structured?

To be awarded this Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ), candidates must successfully complete all mandatory units plus a minimum of two (2) Level One elective units, one (1) Level Two elective unit and one (1) Level Three elective unit.

What does it covers?

The mandatory units cover:

  • Press work
  • Assemble garment
  • Finish work
  • Perform minor maintenance
  • Apply quality standards to work
  • Perform simple cut work
  • Organise and plan own work to achieve planned outcomes

The optional units include:

  • Carry out data entry and retrieval procedures
  • Craft a personal entrepreneurial strategy
  • Determine and perform garment maintenance and repair
  • Set up and operate industrial sewing machines
  • Produce embroidered products
  • Produce printed products
  • Assist with development of design
  • Coordinate or set up machine for product change
  • Measure, lay-up and cut custom made garments
