Brick/Block Laying, Rendering Level 2 (CVQ)

Who is this qualification for?

This qualification is for individuals working in the construction industry: for example:

  • Masons
  • Bricklayers
  • Foremen
  • Skilled/Semi-skilled Workers
  • Apprentices
  • Artisans

This list is not exhaustive and only serves to illustrate the breadth of the qualification.

How it is structured?

To be awarded this Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ), candidates must successfully complete all mandatory units. Elective units achieved will be awarded unit Statements of Competence.

What does it covers?

The mandatory units include:

  • Draw and interpret simple drawings
  • Carry out measurements and calculations
  • Prepare for solid plastering
  • Mix cementious materials (mortar and concrete)
  • Prepare surface
  • Carry out levelling
  • Apply solid render
  • Lay bricks/blocks (wall and corner)
  • Lay multi-thickness walls and piers 

The optional units include:

  • Carry out excavation and install support
  • Prepare for dry wall plastering
  • Prepare for demolition process
  • Prepare for painting and decorating
  • Erect and strip formwork for concrete work
  • Carry out steel fixing
  • Carry out concrete work
