As labour markets become more specialised and economies demand higher levels of skill, governments and businesses are increasingly investing in technical and vocational education and training (TVET). The TVET Council (TVETC) was set up to direct young people and others towards training and certification which they can use to develop work-related skills and exciting careers.
In this section you’ll find out more about the TVET Council’s role, activities, staff and members. Use the links below to get started.
The TVET Council is a statutory organisation set up to make Barbados more competitive through the development of its workforce. It is mandated to plan, coordinate and establish standards and qualifications for the discipline of TVET.
To develop a competent, certified and competitive workforce in Barbados and the region through the promotion and coordination of demand driven technical and vocational education and training.
To be the premier catalyst for workforce development in the region.
Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is, simply, education to prepare people – students, job seekers, the employed and the self-employed - for the world of work and business. Also known as workforce training, it includes all programmes and courses that contribute towards the development of the knowledge, technical skills, attitudes, and core skills essential to being competitive in the world of work.
