Move Towards a Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQs) Framework -
(Jan - Jun 2000 Vol 1 & 2)
The need for coordination and rationalization of TVET and the move towards an integrated CARICOM single market and economy (including the free movement of labour) have prompted the National Training Agencies of Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad or their equivalents to explore the benefits of joint and concerted initiatives.
One such initiative is the proposed Caribbean Vocational Qualifications (CVQs) Framework. The basis for a CVQs Framework is that free movement of labour regionally can only be accommodated through reciprocal acceptance of qualifications. There already exists a free movement of graduates from the University of the West Indies in some disciplines. The initiative is supported by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the International Labour Organization, Caribbean Examinations Council and the British Council. It is hoped that the process for introducing CVQs will be fast-tracked by learning from past experiences.
