Summary
A
lead body takes the lead in drawing up Occupational Standards. The lead
body for each industry is made up of people from that very industry -
employers, trades unions, and professional organisations. This section
outlines their responsibilities and how they work in Barbados.
What
are they?
Lead
bodies are responsible for defining, maintaining and improving national
standards of performance for National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs).
They represent their sector of employment, including small and
leading-edge employers and must have credibility as employment-led
organisations.
Their
composition and the consultations which they undertake with their sectors
should ensure that the standards they develop are widely acceptable to
employers and employees. They also receive advice which allows them to
judge the accessibility of their standards. Lead bodies work with the TVET
Council, the local NVQ awarding body, in the formation and structuring of
NVQs.
Lead bodies in Barbados
Barbados
at present has lead bodies in the areas of Tourism and Hospitality,
Customer Service and Information Technology. These lead bodies have
contributed to the development of the occupational standards in those
sectors.
